Vaporfly 4% lowered the energetic cost of running by 4% on average. We predict that with these shoes, top athletes could run substantially faster and achieve the first sub-2-hour marathon."
Angående Next% versionen:
https://www.wired.com/story/the-science-behind-nikes-new-vaporfly-next-marathon-shoe/"The first time Nike asked Hoogkamer and his colleagues at the Locomotion Lab to validate their internal tests, the company agreed to let the researchers publish their findings and talk about them publicly.
Not this time.
"What I can say on the record is that the Vaporfly Next% provided a statistically significant improvement in running economy over the original Vaporfly 4% in our test subjects," Hoogkamer says. "Overall, it just performed better."
Leaked images of the Next% showed that Nike at one point considered calling it the Vaporfly 5%. Why the change? "We had people test above and below 5 percent, but as we got to wider and wider audiences, it didn’t feel right to put one specific number on it," says Elliott Heath, Nike's product line manager for running shoes."

"At the 2018 Berlin Marathon, Kipchoge traversed the course's 26.2 miles in 2:01:39. It was a precedent-shattering performance. For more than half a century, improvements to the marathon world record had come in increments measured in seconds. Kipchoge crushed the previous record by a colossal 1 minute and 18 seconds. And he did it wearing Vaporflys. Its the greatest improvement over a previous record since 1967."
"The IAAF recognizes two world records for women, a time of 2:14:04 set by Brigid Kosgei on October 13, 2019 during the Chicago Marathon which was contested by men and women together, and a "Women Only" record of 2:17:01, set by Mary Keitany, on April 23, 2017 at the London Marathon for women only."
"Kenenisa Bekele won the Berlin Marathon in September 2019 in 2:01:41, the second fastest time ever and just two seconds off of the world record set by Eliud Kipchoge on the same course the previous year. After the run he stated that he still believes that he can break the world record."
