1. All (or as many as possible) of the small PET bottles will be collected and recycled by the marathon staff; not perfect, but not an environmental disaster by any means.
2. Because of construction for the tram system extension, the course has been changed and there are a few tight turns in the first few miles (first 4 km). This occurs when the streets are narrow, and still crowded. So allow for a few slow km's - good warm-up strategy anyway, good for negative splits.
3. The Phoenix Park stretch can be quite exposed if there is a westerly breeze; be prepared to reduce pace and conserve energy, or get into a peloton. Also mile 13-15 is wind-prone and very slight uphill gradient.
4. Small bridge at mile 22 is not exactly Vaesterbron, but it comes as a bad time - be prepared!
5. Tram (s.k. Luas) and local train (s.k. DART) are the most hassle-free way to get into city on marathon day.
I have to be in Barcelona for work, otherwise I would be there - good luck! And remember to rehydrate afterwards on a Murphy's Stout....
